As the study of philosophy involves reading and discussion of philosophical writings, it is expected to have a good knowledge of German (at least B1). Furthermore we recommend you taking part in intense German classes. Further information on German courses can be found here.

You find detailed information on classes at the University of Bonn in the electronic course catalogue (eVV), called BASIS. There you will also find the booking codes for your classes, which you have to enter in your Learning Agreement.

The University of Bonn has also developed a supplementary English speaking course offer. These English speaking courses increase the class program taught in English for international students. All relevant information you will find here.

On the website of the University of Bonn you will find helpful information about how to find accommodation in Bonn.

In principle, you may participate in all courses of the Institute of Philosophy. However, you should assess for yourself which courses are suitable for you based on your previous philosophical knowledge and your language skills.

We would like to ask you to contact the Departmental Coordinator before the start of the semester and before the end of your stay, as he will help you to transfer the classes you have attended into a Transcript of Records.

Most courses belong to modules, which form part of our regular teaching (though the seminar courses on offer in each individual module tend to differ each year). You can find an overview over the modules here:

Module Manual BA Philosophy (not available in English)

Module Manual MA philosophy (not available in English)

To complete a course successfully, you will have to attend classes in person. More details about how many ECTS points you can earn during your stay at our department you will find here. Please keep this information in mind when creating your Learning Agreement.
